Harrison County, WV has a rich history that dates back to the early Native American civilizations. The county was originally inhabited by the Shawnee and Mingo tribes, who used the area for hunting and fishing. It was named after Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the father of President William Henry Harrison.
