Oklahoma was originally intended to be two separate states: Oklahoma and Indian Territory. However, when Oklahoma became a state in 1907, it included both areas.

Roger Mills County is located in western Oklahoma, named after Roger Quarles Mills, a Texas state senator and prominent lawyer. The area that is now Roger Mills County was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Wichita and Cheyenne tribes.
