Paulding County, Georgia has a rich and diverse history that dates back to the early 19th century. The area was originally inhabited by Cherokee and Creek Native American tribes before the arrival of European settlers. In 1823, the county was created and named after John Paulding, one of the captors of British spy Major John André during the American Revolutionary War.
