Paulding County, Georgia has a rich and diverse history that dates back to the early 19th century. The area was originally inhabited by Cherokee and Creek Native American tribes before the arrival of European settlers. In 1823, the county was created and named after John Paulding, one of the captors of British spy Major John André during the American Revolutionary War.

During the mid-1800s, Paulding County thrived as an agricultural community, with cotton being the main cash crop. The introduction of the railroad in the late 1800s brought economic growth to the area, allowing for increased transportation of goods and people. The Battle of New Hope Church, a significant engagement of the Atlanta Campaign, took place in 1864 and resulted in numerous casualties and significant destruction to the area.

Manufacturing, particularly textile mills, became a major source of employment and economic stability. The construction of nearby Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in the 1960s further contributed to the county's growth.
