The Georgetown Heights

( Marker is on R Street Northwest east of Wisconsin Avenue Northwest, on the right when traveling east.)

The District was originally much larger: The District of Columbia originally included land from both Maryland and Virginia, but in 1846, the portion of the District that had been taken from Virginia was returned to the state.
