During the American Civil War, Catoosa County saw significant military action, as it was located on the main route between Chattanooga and Atlanta. The Battle of Ringgold Gap, fought in 1863, was a pivotal moment in the Civil War and resulted in Confederate victory. The county also served as a supply hub for the Confederate Army and witnessed several skirmishes and confrontations.

In the 20th century, Catoosa County experienced significant industrial development. The arrival of major industries brought jobs and growth to the region, and the county became known for manufacturing, particularly in the carpet and textile industries.
