Location: Driving Directions:From SH 7, go 4.5 miles north on FM 1733. Turn right at CR 1090 and go 0.2 mile east. Turn left at driveway and go 0.2 mile north to house. Cemetery is located southwest of house, across drainage, on a hilltop in pasture. A large oak tree and tall white metal cross mark the site. The cemetery is approx. 617 ft. north of CR 1090 and 433 ft. east of FM 1733. The cemetery is highly endangered. It is not a map feature and is located on private property. There are no cemetery signs and all original markers are missing. The only evidence of a cemetery at this location is a large, white, steel cross that sits in concrete base. Written into the concrete base is:Samuel PattonB 1820D 1868Family Plot. A large oak stands approx. 30 ft. due east of the cross. According to local tradition, "Patton" is carved into the tree trunk. However, during this survey, no carving was evident on the trunk.The site does not appear to be regularly maintained, other than seasonal mowing.

To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
