Oliver, Dr. William Holt, House
602 W. Twenty-sixth, Bryan, TXDr. Willian Holt Oliver had this Classical Revival-styled dwelling built by the Parker Lumber Co. in about 1905. The design illustrates the departure from strict symmetry and the conventional use of classical motifs. Here, the paired, giant-order, dissimilar columns are not aligned with the off-center entrance. In 1913 Dr. Oliver is credited as a leader in the founding of Bryan's first hospital. He financed & staffed the hospital on W 28th. It later expanded & in 1954 became St. Joseph's Hospital.
Local significance of the building:Listed in National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
