The Ashland, Soo Line Depot is architecturally significant as a fine example of Richardsonian Romanesque design, quite dramatically representing the wealth and prosperity of industrial Ashland during the period. The historical significance of building 19 is based on its broad contributions to the development of transportation and commerce in the community, as Ashland became a major terminus for late 19th-century rail service in the northern region of the state of Wisconsin. The period of significance begins with the date of construction and continues to 50 years ago.
