Waller County, created April 28, 1873, organized August 16, 1873. Named in honor of Edwin Waller, 1800-1881, member of the consultation in 1835, signer of the Texas declaration of independence, first mayor of the city of Austin, member of the secession convention of 1861. Hempstead, the county seat.
