Peterson, George A., House

a.k.a. Site #12

1012 E. 8th St., Austin, TX

1012 East 8th Street, constructed ca. 1904 for George A. Peterson, partner with CO. Lindahl in a grocery and feed business on East 6th Street, is significant because it is an excellent example of a finely crafted, Victorian, T-plan residence. At one time prolific in Austin, many of these vernacular structures have been radically altered and their distinctive carpentry details removed. The Peterson House is not only intact, but its clip-cornered, elaborated front bay is a noteworthy variation on the T plan which is unusual for East Austin.
