Nagel, Chester and Lorine, House

The Chester and Lorine Nagel House is named for its architect and first owners, Chester Emil Nagel, architect, and Lorine White Nagel, Latin scholar. Completed in May of 1941, the Nagel House represents an extremely early example of the International Style in Texas with respect to its architectural form, design, and intentions. The house also represents a significant example of a residence displaying a regionalist interpretation of modernism in Texas. As the work of a member of the first generation of American architects to disseminate the Bauhaus aesthetic of the International Style to America in the pre-World War II era, the Nagel House satisfies National Register Criterion C in the area of Architecture at the state level of significance as an early, significant, and distinguishable example of International Style architecture.
