North Fort Worth High School

600 Park St., Fort Worth, TXThe North Fort Worth High School (NFWHS), also referred to as North Side High School (NSHS), was built in 1918 to accommodate the educational needs of the growing population on the city's north-side. From 1918 through the spring of 1991, the school was known sequentially as NFWHS, Technical High School (THS) and J.P. Elder Junior High (later Middle) School Annex. The property is eligible at the local level under Criterion A in the area of Education, for being the principal location for secondary level schooling in academics, vocational/technical training, athletics, and extracurricular activities in North Fort Worth. The property is also eligible at the local level under Criterion C in the area of Architecture as an excellent example of Prairie School design. Closed in 1991 and scheduled for demolition, a group of concerned citizens formed the nonprofit North Fort Worth Community Arts Center, Inc., for the purpose of preserving and reusing the building.
