Location: Miller, Soloman Cemetery. SOURCE: McXie Whitton Martin, 1993 vols 1-3.N of Broaddus on SH 83 for 2.9 miles, R on FM 2390 for 4.2 miles to 4th dirt road, to Paradise Hills Subdivision. Stay left 1st & 2nd forks to asphalt road. Follow 06 mile, site about 60 ft. to R. Fenced.THC site visit MB 6-28-05 w/ K Skillern. Broaddus, Tx area. From FM 2390 turn on CR 427 to Y with CR 4715 toward lake, continue 4715N to bend in road to CR 4719 for 1.3 miles. Fenced formal site, set back from road with mowed parking area. Diversity of formal markers, commercial markers, homemade, fieldstones, obelisks, petrified wood, some sculpture. Abundant floral grave materials. Large Cedar marker, also some Pines. Miller, Soloman Cemetery. Approx 0.08 acre. SA-C161. Broaddus, Tx area. GPS 31.13.51.05399N –94.15.56.49433W. USGS Low risk endangerment, not on map but fenced, maintained, in use, on road.

To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
