Go about 2 1-4 miles turn left on the White City Road and follow the signs to the Williams Cemetery.THC site visit 6-23-05 MB w/ K Skillern: White City, Tx area. US 83 to FM 2390 S for 2.5 miles to FSR 304 W for 2.5 miles to CR 475, sign, for 1.8 miles E past PR 8275, then R on S for 0.1 mile to site. OR from FM 705 on CR 475 for about 1 mile. Sandy lane off CR 475 S on sandy lane for about 400 ft. to site. Old homeplace area about 600 ft. to E. Fenced formal site, small pavillion. Diversity of formal markers, obelisks, slabs, commercial markers, spires, some photo enamels. Abundant floral grave materials, some flags, large and small. Elaborate birdhouse. Small mounded area to N end of cemetery, unknown source. Large Cedar and Oak marker trees, landscaping, Crape Myrtles.. Visitor mailbox and journal at entrance. To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
