Continue North on Hwy 87 for 7.1 miles, then turn East or Right on Reeves Road. Go 1.4 miles down Reeves Road until you see a large mail box (Box # 530) on the Left. This will be 0.3 mile after you have crossed the Patroon Creek Bridge. Turn Left on this driveway and go 0.3 mile to a road on the Right. At this turn you will be in sight of a house at the end of this drive. Turn Right and go 0.1 mile to the cemetery. The cemetery is unfenced, but was freshly cut and groomed. 16 graves. Small formal cemetery, unfenced. Obelisks, diversity of formal markers over time. No evidence of being still in use. Near a residence, wooded area surrounding site. Ajdacent heavy timber growth suggests site may have been overgrown and now is maintained by current landowner. Mowed grass, no marker trees existing, but stump of a large Chinese Tallow tree with new sprout growth. No evidence of marker bulbs or shrubs. No floral or decorative materials. Approx 0.16 acre. To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the
Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.
The Historic
Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by
recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent
to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic
Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.
A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition
for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s
presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or
agency may submit a request for designation.
