Maverick County, created February 2, 1856, organized July 13, 1871. Named in honor of Samuel Augustus Maverick, 1803-1870. At the storming of Bexar, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, member of the Texas Legislature. Eagle Pass, the County Seat.
