Location: Shady Point Cemetery, Dime Box, Tx (area)Lee Co, Tx Cems, vol 1-2 (1991): From Giddings FM 141 for 15.8 miles, right on CR 430 for 0.7 mile, left on CR 426 fro 1.9 miles to cattle guard. Right for 0.1 mile through another cattle guard, then 0.2 mile on CR 429 to cem on left. Enclosed, well kept. Clemons family gave about 1 acre for church and cemetery. Sandy Point . M.E. Church was once located here but moved to FM 141. Fifst burial about 1896. There is one large Pine tree near where the church was. Outside back fence of cemetery is a large grove of Pines. …First burial aobut 1896.… Index." NOTE: Two A. M. E. Diversity of markers over time, formal to informal. Many fieldstone markers and other locally caste markers. Most graves face E. Abundant floral and deocrative grave materials. To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
