Cem located behind church. (1988) cem on land originally owned by Nathan Meeks, whose home was E, across the road which was not there then. Meeks family members tell that Natha Meeks while sitting on his front porch facing W that he wanted to be buried in a certain grove of Cedar trees …1860s first burial and cem became known as Meeks-Miller Cem for only family members. Later, in 1900 … it became a public cem. Originally it had a road around the N and W, but as roads change, the CRs are now on the E and S. Church and school laber moved from Lower Knobbs area to this location. Cem. is surrounded by a chainlink fence, well kept. Cem Assoc. (1988) among McDavid family.Recorded, McDade area. Large cem, half open mowed area, half with abundant marker and landscaping Cedars and Oaks, also marker shrubs, Pommegranit and Crape Myrtle. Large central area of San Augustine grass. Considerable diversity of markers over time, formal to informal, including fieldstone and locally caste markers. Family plot in center landscaped as small park. Fenced. Arched entrance.Approx 1 acre. To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
