Sam and Will Moore Institute Bell

Marker installed: 1973

At institute's opening (1901), this bell rang the school day hours and soon became town's fire alarm. Its proudest day of civic use was November 11, 1918, when it sounded news of the armistice ending World War I. Discarded in 1939, it was restored in 1973.
