Moffett Ranch Cemetery

Texas
Location: This cemetery is located on property owned by Maria Luisa Sienkienwietz. There are metal steps over the barbed wire fence that provide access to the cemetery. The site is about 50 yards NE of Falcette Road and 2.1 miles north of the intersection of Falcette Road and Carroll Road intersection. Take FM 468 NW of Cotulla. Take FM 469 N as it splits from FM 468. Continue on 449 straight to Carroll Road. The steps are just before a metal gate for the Carroll Ranch (C4). This site is not maintained and needs immediate attention. This site is on maps but its name is unknown. It is overgrown with mesquite, tall grass, and vines. Most of the graves are hidden in brush, broken, or have fallen. There are three fenced plots with the graves covered with brush. Most of the stones are missing and there appear to be some unmarked graves.

To address the problem of cemetery destruction and to record as many cemeteries as possible, the Texas Historical Commission offers the Historic Texas Cemetery designation.

The Historic Texas Cemetery designation was developed in 1998 to help protect historic cemeteries by recording cemetery boundaries in county deed records to alert present and future owners of land adjacent to the cemetery of its existence. Every county in Texas has at least one cemetery designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery through this program. The HTC designation is the first step toward preservation of a historic cemetery.

A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations. Any individual, organization, or agency may submit a request for designation.
