McCollum, D. C., House

433 W. 24th St., Houston, TX

The McCain House is significant as one of the few four-square houses in the Heights. Although larger in scale than most Heights houses, it reflects the use of a popular early-20th-century style used in the house of a prominent citizen. The owner, Henry Hicks McCain, was a medical doctor who later became a Methodist minister, pastoring at several Houston Methodist churches, including Grace and Collins Methodist Churches in the Heights. He was the founder of the Methodist Hospital in Houston and served as Chairman for 15 years.
