Clare, J. H., House

939 Arlington, Houston, TX

The Clare House is an early-20th-century dwelling remarkably intact for the housing stock of the Heights. Decorative gable features make it a distinctive example of transitional Queen Anne style vernacular building. The house was built on Lot 3 by J.H. Clare in 1904. In 1906, Mr. Clare and wife, Mary M. Clare, purchased Lot 4 and sold the S1/2 to E.H. Chapman in the same year. Mr. Clare sold the property to Englebert J. Schmitz in 1907, who lived there for a number of years.
