1879 Houston Waterworks

The construction of a waterworks in Houston was a necessary step in its growth into the metropolis which it became. It is important, in addition, because it included structures involved in the 1904 Supreme Court decision to prevent the Houston Waterworks Company from pumping Buffalo Bayou water into the city water system. Its remains are significant as important examples of municipal water engineering of the 1870's and are among the limited number of century old structures in downtown Houston.
