Built by Henry Schumacher (1832-1901), a native of Germany who came to Texas in 1849. In 1866, after serving with the Texas Infantry in the Civil War, he settled in Navasota, was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church, and about 1868, married Emma Louise Horlock. They had eight children.
In 1873, Schumacher built this home and a cottonseed oil mill, for which he was well-known. He was president of the First National Bank at his death.
