Houston, William Buckner and Sue, House

St. George St., Gonzales, TXThe William Buckner and Sue Houston House was built in 1898 for a cattle baron who made his fortune in Gonzales County during the second half of the nineteenth century. An authentic example of Victorian taste and the Queen Anne Style, the house reflects the prosperity brought to individual entrepreneurs and to Gonzales by the cattle industry. The Houston family occupied the house from the time it was completed until the death of William's second wife Sue Jones Houston in 1951. The property then went through a series of inhabitants until the present owners purchased it in 1994. The property is being nominated at the local level of significance in the area of Community Planning, Development, and Architecture as an outstanding example of Queen Anne design.
