Business and buildings are landmarks in Galveston; the facade is distinguished among structures in the mall area. Location of one of Galveston's oldest businesses from 1906-1982.; C.J. Michaelis established a drug store in 1890 and moved to this site in 1906; rebuilt structure for use; various partnerships, all evolving through the original owner of the business. Tax records indicate the original building was built c. 1886-87 by Mrs. Olympia Freybe.
