This is an unusual example of the bungalow form & details adapted for commercial use. Site of the city's oldest lumber company founded about 1880. Originally a branch of the M. T. Jones Lumber Co.. based in Houston. Later known as William F. Lewis Lumberyard during the 1890s. Later it became the Waxahachie Lumber Co. and operated under that name until the late 1920s. Then it was known as the Rockwell Lumber Co., which operated at that location until the 1970s.
