Hines, E. M., House

124 Kaufman, Waxahachie, TX

The modified L-plan house is a Victorian elaboration of the two-room with a center-passage plan. Popular because of its asymmetrical, natural form, the plan type was built in large numbers in a single-story version. The Hines House is one of the best local examples of a two-story modified L-plan dwelling. It retains much of its original fabric and picturesque massing. E. M. Hines, who listed his occupation as a farmer, built the house and owned it until the late 1930s when contractor T. F. Timmins purchased the dwelling.
