Barrington House

206 W. Belknap, Ennis, TX

The most notable early twentieth-century house form in Ennis was the large two-story bungalow which this house successfully exemplifies. The usual bungalow details of low-pitch, multiple gable roofs, exposed rafters and grouped windows contrast to the setback two-story sleeping area, classically detailed corner pilasters (associated with local architect Hix McCanless' work), and atypical stout Doric columns on piers as porch supports. This house was built for Thad and Kate Barrington.
