Frobese, William, Sr., House

305 E. Newman, Cuero, TX

Similar to the Mugge House (Site No. 917), this is one of Cuero's oldest extant residences. In form, it is an L-plan dwelling however, the grand scale and fine craftsmanship make this one of the city's finest and most significant residences. William Frobese, Sr., a German immigrant who was a principal partner of the regionally prominent firm of H. Runge & Co., had the house dismantled with the planks numbered and then moved and rebuilt in Cuero from Indianola after the 1875 storm. It appears on the 1881 bird's-eye map of Cuero. Frobese died in 1911 and the house remained in the family until recent years.
