Waddill, R. L., House

302 W. Lamar, McKinney, TX

This 1 1/2-story center-passage house is believed to have been originally constructed in the late 1870s for Judge R.L. Waddill. Sanborn
maps show that it originally faced east onto Church St., but was reoriented on the same lot between 1902 and 1908 to face south onto Lamar St. Sanborn maps also show that the house was remodeled between 1914 and 1920. Waddill was among McKinney's earliest leaders and was involved with early education efforts in the city. The house is still owned by his descendants. Although the house was altered in the early years of this century, it provides an excellent illustration of how a structure evolves over time. The changes themselves have become important and contributing features to the building's architectural significance.
