Newsome-King House

401 W. Louisiana, McKinney, TX

When originally completed in 1889, this was one of the city's finest Queen Anne-style residences. It was built for W.D. Newsome, a successful grocer, and businessman. In 1897 he, along with his father and brother gave money to build the 1st Christian Church of McKinney. Between 1908 and 1914 Newsome removed the 3-story corner tower and wrap-around porch and constructed the present Prairie-inspired porch. In 1914 he moved to Dallas and two years later was appointed to the Federal Reserve Board in Dallas. A.C. King, who operated a wholesale grocery business in Mckinney, purchased this house in 1915 and his family maintained ownership until 1966.
