House at 201 N. Graves

201 N. Graves, McKinney, TX

The dominant vernacular house type of late 19th-century McKinney is the L-plan, and this is one of the best local examples. Many later versions, such as this dwelling, have a large hip roof with gabled extensions. These houses frequently have pent roofs in the front gable end which is interrupted by window openings. Although it has been converted into an office, this house retains virtually all of its original exterior detailing. The turned wood porch frieze and brackets remain in good condition and are exemplary of this plan type.
