Collin County Mill and Elevator Company
407 E. Louisiana, McKinney, TXThe origins of the Collin County Mill & Elevator Co. can be traced to the 1870s when W.C. Burrus & his son J. Perry Burrus operated
a flour will just outside of McKinney. In 1892 they purchased the Farners and Merchants Roller Mill, which had been established in 1885, and they consolidated their operations, calling it the Collin County Mill and Elevator Co. It originally stood on the west side of the H&TC tracks, but in 1914 this facility was built. Expansion took place in about 1927. It was converted into a feed mill in the 1930s. J. Perry Burrus & his son Jack Burrus became leaders in the milling industry in the southwestern U.S. This plant closed in the 1970s. It is the city's best example of industrial architecture.
