Brown, John R., House
509 N. Church, McKinney, TXDuring the early 20th century, most of McKinney's most prominent and successful citizens began erecting residences that utilized architectural forms that were widely used throughout the nation. These houses are now regarded as the first examples of Popular architecture. This dwelling, built about 1905 for local businessman John R. Brown, is one of McKinney's best illustrations of an early 20th-century house, with some Classical Revival detailing. The Sullivanesque frieze that extends around the house is a particularly noteworthy feature and is an architectural detail found rarely in Texas
