The Calcasieu Building, as an early and important commercial work of a master, Atlee B. Ayres, is nominated to the National Register under Criterion C in the area of Architecture at the local level of significance. The 1914 building is an early local example of a mid-rise early 20th century commercial office building and part of a series of Ayres-designed commercial buildings. Located in a historically commercial area of San Antonio, it is part of a row of four distinguished buildings designed by Ayres between 1904 and 1914 for developer G. Bedell Moore. The Calcasieu Building represents the 2-part vertical block building type with features typical of commercial buildings built in the Chicago style during the early 20th century.
