NAS Chase Field-Building 1042
a.k.a. Brig
Ofstie Rd. 0.6 mi. SSE of the jct. of TX 202 and Independence St., Beeville, TXBuilding 1042, the Old Brig is one of the 30 surviving historic resources dating from the original 1943-1944 construction at Chase Field. Although a number of historic resources survive from the original period of construction, most have been altered - some beyond recognition - over the years. While lacking architectural distinction, the Old Brig retains its original appearance to a remarkable degree. As a result, the building conveys a clear sense of the World War II era and the emergency military construction conditions under which it was built. The building is directly associated with the historic context, Chase Field: A World War II Naval Auxiliary Air Station, 1943-1946, and with the statewide context, U.S. Military 1919-1945. It is nominated to the National Register of Historic Places at the local level of significance under Criterion A for its historic associations with the naval auxiliary air station and its World War II-era mission.
Local significance of the building:Listed in National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
