Dilley, G. E., Building

503 W. Main St., Palestine, TX

The G.E. Dilley Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

The G.E. Dilley Building is a 2-part commercial block building at 401 W. Main Street in Palestine's downtown. Fronting south onto W. Main Street, the 2-story brick building employs a rectangular plan and load-bearing masonry walls. Architectural embellishment, such as the elaborately detailed parapet on the facade and segmental-arched hoodmolds on the second floor, make the Dilley Building an outstanding example of Victorian Italianate commercial architecture in Palestine. In 1993, the present owners completed restoration work, ensuring that the Dilley Building's historic fabric remained unaltered. Although currently unoccupied, the building remains in good condition, with its integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, and association intact.
