Floris Grain Elevator

The Floris Grain Elevator is significant because it is the only extant structure associated with the grain industry and the Beaver, Meade and Englewood Railroad in Floris, Oklahoma. It also served an important function in the agriculture, commerce, and economy of Floris. The Floris elevator was built as a branch elevator along the railroad by the Farmers Union Equity of Forgan in 1926. Over 350,000 bushels of wheat were shipped from Floris to Kansas City, Missouri during the first year of operation. The Floris Grain Elevator was an important shipping for the wheat farmers of the area until the railroad deteriorated in the late 1960s.
