Bryan's Store

435 Loudon Rd., Loudonville, NY

The building was a saloon before it was moved to its present location. (The second year of the Civil War.) The saloon windows (which open onto a veranda) are still intact. After it was moved, Ralph A. Gove opened it as the Loundonvillestore and post office.

William Woods was the next owner. It was kept the same, he just painted his name over Gove's on the sign (the sign is stored in the barn). Arnol Bryan took over in 1926-27. About 1932, the Post Office was moved elsewhere but continued to run as a grocery store. Bryan also modernized the inside of the apartments. The building was initially thought to have been moved to Loudonville from the Fair Grounds in Menands (Albany County) on Broadway (exact data and date have not yet been found). This building has served the community since it was first moved here, it is a landmark to those who lived in the Town of Colonie.
