Bartolomė Baca Grant

In 1819, the Spanish Government granted Bartolomė Baca a tract of land that extended east from the eastern slopes of the Manzano Mountains for nearly thirty miles. After New Mexico became part of the Mexican Republic in 1821, additional grants were made to the settlements that had been established within the boundaries of the Baca grant. These included the towns of Manzano (1829), Tajique (1834), Torreon and Chilili (1841).
