Pueblo of Santa Ana
Historical marker location:
NM Highway 550, Pueblo of Santa Ana, New Mexico
( located at pueblo entrance)
The Keres speaking Pueblo of Santa Ana, known as Tamaya, first submitted to Spanish rule in the 1540s and later in 1693 re-established the present location. Poorly suited for farming, the population currently resides on the east banks of the Rio Grande and returns to their traditional homes on the north bank of the Jemez River to practice traditional cultural activities. Santa Ana thrives today through a vibrant blend of traditional and modern way of life.
