Navajo Lake State Park – San Juan River Quality Water Area


Cold, clear water released from Navajo Dam has created one of the best trout fishing areas in the Southwest. Special restrictions protect an area running 3.75 miles downstream from the dam, benefitting a valley with several wildlife habitats restored by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation built Navajo Dam between 1956 and 1962 as part of the Colorado River Storage Project. .
