Vásquez de Coronado's Route (7)

In May 1541, Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado halted his expedition along the west bank of the Pecos River for four days while they built a bridge across the river. The expedition then spent the next several months searching for the fabled riches of Quivira in the plains of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. In early 1542, the disillusioned explorers returned through here on their way back to Mexico.
