Woodford's first county court met here, May 16, 1789. Caleb Wallace (1742-1814), Presbyterian minister from Va., was in Kentucky by 1783. He served on Supreme Court of District of Ky. and on Ky. Court of Appeals for 30 years. A founder of several colleges and a trustee of Transylvania University, Wallace was called the "Father of the Academy System of Kentucky.".
