Nathaniel Wolfe
Historical marker location:Born in Richmond, Va., on October 29, 1810, Wolfe was one of the first two graduates of the University of Virginia School of Laws in 1829. After law school, he came to Kentucky to begin his law practice. He was a highly respected criminal lawyer and was regarded as one of the most effective advocates of the Bar. He was involved in several nationally-followed cases in Louisville.
Wolfe served as the commonwealth's attorney for Jefferson County and in both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly. As a legislator during much of the Civil War, Wolfe was a loyal Unionist. He urged the state to remain neutral until state elections could occur in August 1861. Wolfe County, created in 1860, was named for him. He died on July 3, 1865, and it buried here.
