Joseph and Reuben Field were two of the most important members of the 1803-1806 Lewis and Clark Expedition to the Pacific Ocean. Born in Virginia, they were raised in the present Okolona, Fairdale, and Valley Station areas.

Two of the first three recruits of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, they were two of the best hunters and received special praise from Meriwether Lewis for their service. Reuben returned to Ky. after the journey. Joseph was killed in 1807.
