Floyd's Station

Historical marker location:
Louisville, Kentucky
( Breckinridge Ln. at Hillsboro Ave., Louisville)

This pioneer fort, begun in 1779, one of five on Beargrass Creek, was situated 500 ft. west. Three were owned by Col. John Floyd who made his headquarters here. He served as first County Lieut. of Jefferson County, 1780 until killed by Indians, 1783. From these forts, of defense and refuge, war was carried on against the British and the Indians in Ohio.
