Mary Desha, one of four founders of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1890, taught public school here, 1875-1885. Designer of society's seal. Taught in Alaska schools, returned to Washington, successfully advocated reforms. Granddaughter of Joseph Desha, Kentucky's tenth governor. Born, Lexington, 1850. Died, Washington, 1911. Buried, Lexington Cemetery.
